Green Pasture Farm

Fresh produce year-round - hydroponics in the Tri-Cities!

Most farms start with soil. Green Pasture Farm started with a plan. And then quietly replaced it with a better one.

When they purchased their 10 acres in Chuckey, TN back in 2017, the vision was classic: grass-fed chickens, sheep, maybe some beef. The name even said it all. Green Pasture. Wide open land, animals roaming, the whole picture.

Then hydroponics happened.

Today, Green Pasture Farm grows lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, microgreens, and yellow squash, all without a single handful of soil. Pure water. Controlled environment. Produce that goes from farm to your table without crossing a state line or sitting in a warehouse for a week.

And the chickens? Still very much here. The farm runs a full hatchery offering a wide range of breeds — from Black Copper Marans to Lavender Orpingtons — for backyard flocks, homesteads, and everything in between. Whether you're after egg-layers or meat birds, they have the expertise and the birds to match.

What makes Green Pasture worth knowing about isn't just what they grow. It's how they grow it. Non-GMO. Organic pest and disease control. A genuine commitment to sustainable farming that shows up in every product they offer.

Merle has been passionate about growing things and raising animals since childhood. That's not a marketing line, it's the reason the farm exists at all. And since purchasing the property, his mission has stayed the same: fresh, organic, delicious produce grown with the community in mind.

You can find Green Pasture Farm at the Jonesborough Farmers Market and the Johnson City Farmers Market, or visit the farm directly in Chuckey. They also offer local pickup and an online store for those who want their greens without leaving the house.

A farm that pivoted, adapted, and came out growing something nobody expected.

That's the kind of local business worth supporting.
